Solemnity of All Saints

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Revelation 7:2-4,9-14
Psalm 24:1-6
1 John 3:1-3
Matthew 5:1-12

A reflection on today's Scripture:

The promise of paradise is offered in today's readings, All Saints Day.
This day dates to the 9th century when the Church assigned November 1st as the day to honor all those enjoying the "Church Triumphant" as "Hallowed" Saints of Christ's Church. Of course, October 31st then became "All Hallows Even" - and ghosties and goblins were invented by the populace.

The readings are beautiful, yet thought-provoking. Who are they who survived the great tribulation? Who shall ascend unto the mountain of the Lord? And "blessed are ye when they shall revile you...your reward is very great in heaven."

Also, quite amazing is this: "we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like him." What a reward for a Saint! WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM! WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM!

But we must follow Him. We must do it His way. And, to help us on our way we ought follow the lead of the great saints who now enjoy His presence, and call upon the Queen of All Saint's, Mary - to pray for us.
Then we can be part of that number "when the Saints go marchin' in!"
