Sts. Isaac Jogues and John de Brebuf, priest, religious, martyrs
and their companions, martyrs

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Romans 5:12,15,17-21
Psalm 40:7-10,17
Luke 12:35-38

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Today the Church celebrates in honor of the holy martyrs, Isaac Jogues, John De Brebeuf and their companions. These North American Martyrs and their blood has hallowed the soil on which it was spilled. Their sacrifice rose up to heaven and provided a most pleasing gift to the Lord.

God so honors them, that their memory is not blotted out, but becomes a holy example which engenders the growth of the faith for which they so selflessly gave up their lives.

Let us today pray in thanksgiving to God for giving us these saints. May we through their example and intercession become more like them in our zeal to spread the Good News of Salvation.

Heavenly Father,
We praise You for the gift of Your martyr saints Isaac Jogues, John De Brebeuf and their Companions.
May their sacrifice bear fruit in our lives so that we too may spend ourselves in the service of others that all may come to know the glory of Your Love. Amen.
