Gift of Life

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Romans 14:7-12
Psalm 27:1,4,13-14
Luke 15:1-10

A reflection on today's Scripture:

In today's scripture the steward recognizes his mistake and instantly looks for a way to survive. By accepting his limitations, he focused on giving up all his material gain for something of higher value. We are all stewards in some way or form. The material possessions we have, could leave us just as quickly as we have received them. How they are managed in our life can be an outward sign of the spiritual life within. Like the steward, would we be willing to let go of worldly gain for something higher?

From our youth we were taught to trust and to be trusted. At the beginning we were trusted with small things, then moved to things that were much larger. If we can't handle the small stuff, how could we think that we might handle greater things! When age comes upon us, we may at times have to revisit what we were taught at our youth, and then work back. God's gift of life to us is the beginning of our stewardship and must not be overlooked either. Without it, how would one come to love
and serve God and neighbor?

Father,
I thank you for the gift of your life and your love.
Help me to become what you have called me be.
