Jesus' coming

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Romans 6:19-23
Psalm 1:1-4,6
Luke 12:49-53

A reflection on the Scripture:

Until Jesus' Second Coming occurs, we are all being put to a test. We see divisions everywhere, with people taking sides on many issues. How prepared are we all for Jesus' coming? Do we resolve to settle issues with one another peacefully? Or are we building walls around us, separating ourselves from one another? Let us open our door to a room full of understanding, of unity; to a room full of cooperation, of peace; to a room full of good cheer, of harmony. May we await Jesus' arrival hand-in-hand with one another.

In the Gospel, we have a choice to make. Do we wish to be slaves to sin, or slaves to God? The wages of sin is death, but to choose God is eternal life in Jesus. Live a life of purity, not impurity; a life of love, not hatred; a life of humility, not pride; a life of goodness, not evil. After all, we are here on earth to love God, serve God, worship God. Let our hands and feet be free of the shackles of evil; may we experience freedom in the Lord; and may we see also the wonders of His love for us all.

Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Amen
