Humility
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Romans 2:1-11
Psalm 62:2-3,6-7,9
Luke 11:42-46
A reflection on today's Scripture:
In this passage of Luke's Gospel, Jesus is reproaching the Pharisees and lawyers.
All of us have something to learn from this passage, as we have all been guilty of these
faults ourselves. What the Pharisees lack is humility. Their pride makes them
self-righteous, and blind to the fact that they are neglecting and actually working in
contradiction to God's love and plans.
In our own lives, there are many times that we fail to see the direction God is moving us.
We work against His Will, rather than with it. Through humility and prayer we are able to
better see what God wishes for us, and our lives. We must always keep in mind that God
loves us and wants what is best for us.
How many times do we pray and ask for God's help regarding a new job, marriage, family
tragedy or decision? It is by including God in everything that we do, that we will grow
closer to Him and lessen the chances of making bad decisions, straying from His grace.
