How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey
to my mouth! - Psalm 119:103
The name of Larry McMurtry may not be familiar to most people. But to readers of books
about the American frontier and small towns of the western US, he is somewhat of an icon.
A few years ago he wrote his autobiography in which he wondered about his own future:
"I'm now in my sixties, which means that I'm looking at a maximum of about 30 more
years of life. Which should I do? Read or write? Though I have now read a lot of books,
the range is still green with thousands of potentially interesting books yet unread."
McMurtry doesn't talk about his own beliefs, so we don't know if he has made a practice of
reading the Bible or if it's included among the "thousands of potentially interesting
books yet unread." I hope he's been reading Scripture, but many people, whether in
their sixties or whatever their age, don't bother to read the Bible.
No matter how much more time you have left in this world, start reading the Bible today if
that hasn't been your practice previously. Resolve to read it regularly. It's the Book
that will bless you while you're still in this world. And it will show you that through
faith in Jesus Christ you can be sure of eternal blessedness in the world to come.

Holy Bible, Book divine,
Precious treasure, thou art mine;
Mine to tell me whence I came,
Mine to teach me what I am.

In all literature, there is nothing that compares with the Bible. - John Milton
